Refractories Services

Experts of FLUX assisting industries during the whole life-cycle of furnaces. From engineering & design, building & construction, operations, lining inspections to damage analysis. We inspect every year many furnaces and advise on repairs, the causes of failures and long term maintenance programs.

Our Engineering makes designs in 3D that can be converted into AutoCAD drawings. Based on your furnace and operations we make fully integrated designs including refractory material selection, thermal calculations and expansion provisions. Also we optimise the insulation in order to reduce the energy consumption.

In the detailed engineering we include material specifications, bills of materials, installation instructions, specials refractory shapes that can be casted or pressed, anchoring designs, quality control specifications and heat-up schedules. We assist procurement with enquiry documents for refractory suppliers and contractors. In combination with our detailed design package this enables you to build or re-line your furnace. We select and specify refractory materials and do the quality control of the supplied materials. During commissioning we supervise the work on site.

Engineering & Design

Based on many years of experience Flux makes designs for rebuilds and repairs. Together we can focus on the clients’ interests and look for improved performances, longer service lives, better availability, energy savings, improved working conditions and much more.

We are unique in knowledge about the furnaces, the refractory designs and mould designs. In co-operation with our clients we have developed many cost effective moulds that enable short supply and installation times of high quality refractory shapes.

Inspection & Advise

Flux is often asked to inspect furnaces. We advise on the necessary repairs and on the long term maintenance. Often we co-operate with the local refractories contractor and use the repair history to find out where improvements can be effective.
We write an inspection report with our recommendations. Also advise can be given directly during or after inspection.

Pre-fab shapes & Moulds

Flux is specialized in designing special refractory shapes and the moulds for producing these shapes. For many applications pre-fabricated refractory shapes are preferred. Pre-fab enables to do work on forehand and will shorten the repair and installation times. The shapes can be dried and fired saving time during start-up of the furnace. Furthermore manufacturing of the shapes can be done under controlled conditions which will result in better material properties and dimensional tolerances.

Moulds for throughs and runners are made in sections. These moulds are designed for a quick installation and demoulding

Quality control

Many companies do not control the quality of the incoming refractories. We experience that there can be significant differences between the ordered and the supplied materials.

Flux does inspections at the manufacturers site before shipment. We check the dimensions of the bricks, take samples and organise the chemical and physical testing. Flux can also make a complete quality control and sampling plan, specially in case of large investment projects were there is no time to reject refractories that do not meet the quality standards.

Procurement

Flux is independent from material suppliers, equipment manufacturers and contractors. This enables us to select the best suitable refractories and application techniques. For the maintenance of a furnace we work mostly with locals; specialised contractors knowing the whereabouts of the furnace and are able to respond quickly on the necessary repairs. Often both the client and the contractor are content with this way of working.

In case of relines, major repairs or new processes we also look for other parties. Flux has made enquiries for several clients on specific essential refractories. And also on the total maintenance on the refractories, including European Tendering. Besides lower costs, tendering may help to identify other refractory materials and installation techniques that enables further improvements.

Supervision

Working conditions inside a furnace are far from ideal, nevertheless we expect good workmanship. To ensure the quality of the work Flux can arrange supervision during construction and installation of the refractories. Experienced supervisors will help to build good refractory linings and constructions.
